027 FXUS64 KHGX 120453 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 1153 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday Night) Issued at 345 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024 The return of onshore winds should lead to the eventual return of low level moisture through the short-term. This will likely trans- late to increased heat index values and perhaps a more active sea (and/or bay) breeze(s) tomorrow. 12Z runs are indicating that PWs will be climbing back to around 2" through the day, with isolated to scattered development along the sea/bay breezes. The best rain chances should be generally across and south of the I-10 corridor. But for areas outside of the potential showers/storms...and given the increased dewpoints, heat index values will be rising to 105- 108F for a part of the CWFA tomorrow afternoon (with highs in the mid to upper 90s). A Heat Advisory is likely. Overnight lows will range from the mid to upper 70s across inland areas...lower 80s along the immediate coast. 41 && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through next Saturday) Issued at 345 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024 The long-term forecast remains on track with being hot and mostly dry. Slight shifting in the mid/upper level ridge and surface high will occur; however, it will not be enough to spare us from daily highs in the 90s to near 100 degrees this week. The combination of heat and increasing moisture at the surface will lead to heat index values in the 107-113F range. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon hours Tuesday, particularly along and south of the I-10 corridor. Isolated showers and storms remain possible Wednesday-Friday afternoons along the coast in association with the sea breeze. Heat Advisories will likely be needed through the week, and Excessive Heat Warnings will be possible. Please continue to keep heat safety at the forefront of any plans that you make (especially if outdoors).Know the signs of heat related illnesses (heat stroke/heat exhaustion), drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks from the heat, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wear sunscreen and loose/light-colored clothing, and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS LOOK before you LOCK your vehicle. Don`t forget about your pets as well! If the ground is too hot for the palm of your hand, then it is too hot for their paws. Adams && .AVIATION... (06Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 1147 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024 Mostly VFR conditions expected throughout the TAF period. There is a brief window for MVFR cigs during the early morning hours, along with the chance for patchy fog developing over LBX overnight into early morning. Light VRB winds will prevail tonight, becoming SE in the morning and increasing to 5-10 KTS. There is a chance for some SHRA/TSRA to develop near and along the sea breeze in the afternoon, but confidence of whether it will directly affect any of our sites, remains low. Winds become light again just before midnight. Cotto (24) && .MARINE... Issued at 345 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024 Light winds and low seas will prevail. During the overnight hours, winds may intermittently increase to around 10 to 15 knots. Rain chances remain low. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
