Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Spokane WA
236 PM PDT Thu Jul 11 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
While the extreme heat has eased, it will stay hot, dry and
locally breezy through the week. Areas of haze and smoke will
linger over the Inland NW from local fires.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Tonight through next Wednesday: Hot and dry conditions will persist
over the next seven days under a mainly zonal flow pattern. High
temperatures will be in the 90s for most locations with the
exception of our warmest spots including the deeper Columbia Basin,
Okanogan Valley, and L-C Valley, which will continue to be at or
just above 100F. Low temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s,
providing some overnight relief for those who don`t have air
conditioning. Breezy winds will recur each afternoon.

With warm temperatures and high mixing heights sticking around for
the foreseeable future, the Pioneer Fire south of Stehekin and
several other large fires in Oregon and California will continue to
generate large amounts of smoke. This will likely result in degraded
air quality for the Lake Chelan area and hazy skies regionwide. Some
smoke may make it to the surface at times. Each night, the smoke
will settle in the lake basin and drift down toward Manson. During
the day, the smoke will shift back toward the north end of the lake.
There is a chance the smoke will seep over into the Methow Valley as
well. The latest air quality readings and smoke outlooks can be
found at fire.airnow.gov. /Fewkes
