Ian Battering the Florida Peninsula with Catastrophic Storm Surge, Winds, and Flooding

Ian made landfall on mainland Florida as a category 4 major hurricane near 4:30 PM ET south of Punta Gorda near Pirate Harbor. Catastrophic storm surge inundation along with destructive waves is ongoing along the southwest Florida coastline. Hurricane-force winds are expected to spread inland to central Florida near the core of Ian through early Thursday. Heavy rainfall will continue flooding.

Synopsis: PHZ100-300245- 400 AM HST Thu Sep 29 2022 .Synopsis for Hawaiian coastal waters... A weak high pressure ridge north of the state will continue to produce moderate to fresh trade winds into Friday morning. Wind speeds will weaken by Friday afternoon as a cold front dropping in out of the north will weaken the ridge. Expect light to moderate trade winds from Friday onward as this weakening frontal boundary slows down and then stalls out near Kauai and Oahu on Sunday. Moderate to locally fresh trade winds move into the region just north of the front, these stronger trades will spread across the region by Tuesday as the frontal boundary fades away. $$
