Very wet storms will impact California and some surrounding states over the next several days. Heavy rain may cause flash flooding, and mud and debris flows on burn scars. Heavy snow will impact the western mountains, with blizzards in the California mountains. Meanwhile, a series of storms will bring snow, freezing rain, and bitter cold, especially, later this weekend, to the Upper Midwest.

A powerful 965 mb low pressure center located 1300 miles west northwest of the Bay Area will move toward the Pacific Northwest through late week bringing a swath of sub-tropical moisture laden air with heavy rain and wind to the entire forecast area Wednesday into Thursday. A combination of heavy wind, large seas, heavy rain, and scattered thunderstorms will result in similarly hazardous conditions to the mid December 2018 storm. A very large and long period west swell will arrive Thursday morning and last into Friday before subsiding. Mariners are urged to monitor weather forecasts closely this week. $$
