A sweltering heat wave with record breaking temperatures is expected the rest of the week in much of the West, as a large dome of high pressure builds and expands across the region. Numerous excessive heat warnings and advisories are already in effect across Arizona, California and Nevada. Also, locally heavy rain is possible in the Lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast over the next few days.
