Bayside and Gulf side from Craig Key to west end of Seven Mile Bridge... Florida Bay including Barnes Sound, Blackwater Sound, and Buttonwood Sound... At 600 PM EDT, National Weather Service meteorologists detected a a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing wind gusts near 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located over Sprigger Bank Light, moving southeast at 15 knots. Locations that will be affected include... Sprigger Bank Light, Channel Key Pass Light, Tennessee Reef Light, Toms Harbor, Long Key Viaduct, Little Rabbit Key, and East Turtle Shoal Light. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Prepare for thunderstorms with wind gusts near 30 knots, locally rough and confused seas, occasional lightning strikes, and potentially blinding downpours. Get to a safe port as quickly, and as safely as possible. When downpours reduce visibility, slow down. Environmental conditions favor waterspout formation. A waterspout would most likely appear beneath a dark, flat bottom of a building cumulus line, just at the hint of rain. Through 700 pm, scattered showers with embedded thunderstorms will move southeast across the Florida Keys and surrounding nearshore and offshore waters. The stronger activity, located in the vicinity of the Upper and Middle Keys, will be capable of heavy downpours reducing visbilities, wind gusts of near 25 knots, and occasional lightning strikes. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.75 inches with locally higher amounts expected between Marathon and Islamorada. Rain has been falling at a heavy rate with a slow storm motion and may lead to localized ponding on roadways. $$
