Through 630 pm, isolated showers will wax and wane as they track slowly eastward at 5 mph, across the island chain from Geiger Key to Layton, as well as the surrounding nearshore waters. The stronger cells will produce wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph, reduce visibility in heavy rain, and possibly a few lightning strikes. Atmospheric conditions will be favorable for waterspouts today and early this evening across the nearshore waters around the Keys island chain. Waterspouts tend to form beneath lines of building cumulus clouds, just at the hint of rain. Waterspouts can easily flip boats, and should be avoided always.
