.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1258 AM CDT Mon Mar 9 2026

Areas of dense fog will continue across the area through the
morning hours and a dense fog advisory is in effect through 9am.
Once the fog clears, temps will warm into the upper 70s and low
80s. Moisture levels will also increase today ahead a shortwave
moving through the zonal flow aloft. This will lead to the
development of showers and thunderstorms across northern portions
of the area during the afternoon hours. Favorable instability and
deep layer shear will create an environment favorable for strong
to severe thunderstorms mainly north of Highway 84 where there is
a slight risk of severe storms today. The main threat is large
hail, potentially up to 2 inches in diameter. The tornado threat
is low but cannot be completely ruled out. Dry conditions follow
in the wake of the shortwave on Tuesday as upper ridging builds
over the area with high temps in the low to mid 80s. The next
system approaches Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This will
bring another chance for strong to severe storms to the area. A
much cooler and drier airmass moves into the area on Thursday with
highs in the low to mid 60s inland to near 70 along the coast.
Lows Thursday night fall into the low 40s inland to upper 40s
along the coast. Temperatures warm back into the upper 70s and low
80s by the weekend. /13

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 624 AM CDT Mon Mar 9 2026

Low ceilings and fog have developed over portions of the local
area this morning. Expect fog to dissipate and ceilings to lift over
the next couple hours. VFR conditions should become prevalent for
the afternoon hours. Scattered storms are expected to develop over
interior counties later this afternoon and into the evening hours,
bringing temporary reductions in visibility and ceilings in some
of the heaviest activity. IFR or lower ceilings look to return to
the area tonight, with some patchy fog possible during the
overnight hours. Southerly winds will increase to around 5-10
knots this afternoon. Winds become light and variable tonight. /96
