Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1218 AM PST Thu Nov 7 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Gusty winds and cool temperatures gradually moderate
today and tomorrow as our recent system pushes east. Temperatures
rise to above-normal values by Monday before our next system brings
another round of breezy and cooler conditions.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Through Friday.

The bowling-ball low responsible for the gusty north winds will
continue to spin across eastern Arizona today. Winds won`t be quiet
as strong as yesterday, but it`s still shaping up to be a blustery
morning, especially in the lower Colorado River Valley where gusts
of 25-40 mph are expected. In some places where winds remain light
before sunrise, the first freezes of the season are forecast. This
includes Kingman, Pahrump, Indian Springs, and the Tecopa/Shoshone
areas. As the day goes on, gusts will gradually wane due to the low
pushing east. Forecast high temps today are a few degrees warmer
than yesterday, but still below normal.

By Friday, the aformentioned low ejects into the Southern Plains.
The additional distance between our area and the low yields 500mb
height rises and a relaxation of surface pressure gradients. As a
result, temps warm another 2-6 degrees and winds become relatively
light.

.LONG TERM...This Weekend into Next Week

Pleasantly mild and dry conditions look to take shape for the
upcoming weekend as weak ridging develops over the Desert
Southwest. This will bring near normal temperature and light
winds, with highs climbing to the 60s and 70s at most low
elevations spots. From Sunday into the first half of next week,
ensemble solutions are pointing to a more progressive pattern.
Much uncertainty exists with a fast moving open wave set to affect
the region Sunday into Monday, though this looks to have little
impact aside from an uptick in winds. The more substantial system
appears to take shape by midweek as ensembles depict a deepening
western U.S. trough. This will likely bring another bout of breezy
to windy conditions and reinforcing shot of cold air, though
substantial timing and location differences persist, generating
rather low confidence at the moment. Toward the end of the week,
it appears another brief bout of ridging may develop before
another storm system digs in across the western CONUS.
