.DISCUSSION...
Hot and mostly dry today. Afternoon highs will climb into the 90s
over much of the area with a few areas reaching into the low 100s.
Minimum humidities will range from the upper teens to around 30
percent. Winds will be out of the south at 15 to 25 mph, gusting
30 to 35 mph. Isolated storms are possible across northwestern
South Dakota later this evening.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is high potential for a fire to spread.
Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Independence day afternoon, The grassland fire

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate category
this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely monitored.

afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low.
