Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...Gusty northwest winds will develop today behind a
strong cold front. Highs will be in the 30s this morning, with
falling temperatures this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity
will be as low as 40 percent on the eastern slopes of the Black
Hills, and 50 to 70 percent on the plains. Northwest winds will
gust up to 50 mph on the plains.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is high potential for a fire to spread.
Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate category to high category.
