Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NE Wyoming and WRN South Dakota
National Weather Service Rapid City SD
151 PM MDT Tue Oct 1 2024

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS NOW EXPECTED THROUGH WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON...

...RED FLAG WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT /7 PM CDT/
WEDNESDAY FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR FIRE
WEATHER ZONES 314, 315, 316, 317, 318, 319, 320, 321, 322, 323,
324, 325, 326, 327, 328, 329, 330, 331, 332, 333, 334, AND 335...

.DISCUSSION...Gusty south to southwest winds will continue
through this evening, slowly becoming northwest as a dry cold
front moves through late tonight and early Wednesday. Wind gusts
around 30 mph are expected through this evening, then 30 to 40 mph
on the western South Dakota plains Wednesday. Minimum relative
humidities will be 8-15 percent through this evening, poorly
recover to 20-30 percent tonight over northeastern Wyoming and
western South Dakota and 30-40 percent over south-central South
Dakota, then dropping to 10-20 percent Wednesday afternoon.

The combination of gusty winds, low minimum relative humidities
through this evening and again Wednesday, poor overnight relative
humidity recovery, and a dry cold front passage will produce
critical fire weather conditions through Wednesday afternoon.

Cooler weather Thursday will be supplanted by above normal
temperatures, gusty winds, and very dry conditions into the
weekend leading to elevated to critical fire weather conditions
again.
