ONSET...This Afternoon. DISCUSSION... Unseasonably warm temperatures, low humidity values, and south winds around 10 miles an hour will result in a limited fire weather danger this afternoon across all of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. By late afternoon, isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of southeast Oklahoma as an upper level storm system moves into the area from the west. A few of these storms may become severe. The storms will spread into parts of western Arkansas early this evening, with a severe storm threat continuing through the evening hours. FRIDAY...Thunderstorm Potential...Very High Fire Weather Potential... High Wind Potential. SATURDAY and SUNDAY...No Hazards. MONDAY and TUESDAY...Very High Fire Weather Potential...High Wind Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... A potent storm system on Friday will bring high end critical fire weather conditions to the region, especially in eastern Oklahoma. Severe thunderstorms may also occur Friday afternoon across far northwest Arkansas. Areas along and west of Highway 69 in eastern Oklahoma have the greatest potential for high end critical fire weather conditions, as south to southwest winds gust to near or above 50 miles an hour at times Friday afternoon. Continue to monitor the forecast this week, as confidence grows in the overall timing and track of this storm system. Gusty south winds will return early next week leading to another uptick in fire weather concerns. weather.gov/tulsa contains additional information. $$
