.DISCUSSION...
By this afternoon, BL mixing should result in a quick drop in RH
across north-central and far northeastern Kansas. In addition,
tightening pressure gradients across eastern Kansas will give way to
very gusty southwesterly winds, gusting up to 35-40 mph at times. As
these parameters coincide between 11 AM and 8 PM, expect dangerous
burning conditions to develop across the eastern portions of Kansas,
particularly across north-central and far northeastern Kansas where
RH values mixing out to 15-20 percent will become commonplace. Fire
partners indicate that fuels continue to dry rapidly given the lack
of recent rain and are at the point where rapid fire growth and
spread are becoming more likely. Any outdoor burning will not be
advised this afternoon as fires will become very difficult to
control and will likely exhibit erratic behavior. A Red Flag Warning
continues for areas across north-central and northeast Kansas until
8 PM this afternoon.
In addition, the passage of a cold front will flip winds to the
northwest by the evening tonight. Winds along and just behind the
frontal boundary could be gust up to 20-25 mph, but
should remain light for the remainder of the night. Recovery of RH
values will be slow Saturday night into Sunday morning with RH only
reaching above 40 percent around sunrise Sunday AM.
