.DISCUSSION, Issued 1013 AM MDT Fri Oct 2 2026...
Not a cloud to be found over Utah and southwest
Wyoming this morning with strong high pressure centered near the
Arizona/Nevada/Utah triple point. Some scattered high clouds over
Nevada will more into the area by early afternoon, but there is
little else to speak of. With the strengthening of the ridge,
maxes should run a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday,
averaging 10F above normal for this time of year.

Persistence will be the name of the game tomorrow with the ridge
moving little. If anything, temperatures will be ever so slightly
warmer than today. The ridge axis will start to track east Sunday,
and the resultant southerly flow will bring a couple of degrees of
additional warming for Sunday afternoon.

As the ridge continues east, this will open Utah and southwest
Wyoming up to a weak storm system late Monday into Tuesday. Weak
is the key word here, as it will be accompanied by little if any
shower activity and should drop high temperatures by a few degrees
at most for Tuesday. The ridge will move back in for the middle to
latter part of the upcoming week, with guidance hinting at the
potential of a more active pattern developing next weekend or
early next week.

High pressure will keep conditions dry, mild, and
stable through the weekend with winds staying light. A weak storm
system will curb the warming trend as it passes through late
Monday into Tuesday, and will likely bring a very slight increase
in relative humidity. High pressure will build again beginning
midweek, with at least some potential for a more active pattern to
develop by the beginning of next week.
