Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service San Juan PR
500 AM AST Wed Mar 26 2025

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR THE SOUTHWESTERN
COASTAL PLAINS OF PUERTO RICO...

A 30- to 60-day percent of normal rainfall analysis indicates
that most of Puerto Rico is experiencing healthy fuel conditions.
However, the far southwestern coastal plains, which have received
little to no rainfall over the past 7 to 14 days, is beginning to
show a drying tendency, as supported by decreasing 7- to 14-day
percent of normal values and recent KBDI reports exceeding 600 in
Guanica.

While there is a 20-30 percent probability of precipitation early
this morning for the area, today`s conditions will continue
particularly conducive to fire danger, with below-normal moisture
and relative humidity as low as the mid 40s to lower 50s
exacerbating the ongoing drying trend. Combined with breezy winds
of up to 25 mph and gusty conditions, these factors create an
environment that can rapidly escalate fire behavior.

Given the combination of persistent dry fuels and soils, low
moisture, breezy winds, and gusty conditions, the potential for
rapid fire spread is elevated. The Fire Danger Statement issued
emphasize the heightened risk and urges extra precaution,
particularly for activities that could spark a fire, such as
outdoor burning, camping, or vehicle use in grassy areas.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and
spread of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
