Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service San Juan PR
446 AM AST Sun Apr 6 2025

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN
PUERTO RICO TODAY...

Today, winds are expected to range from 15 to 20 mph, with higher
gusts around 26 to 28 mph, and relative humidities dropping to
near 40%. Additionally, latest reports of stations show KDBI
values well above fire weather criteria thresholds in Guanica
(637), and slightly increasing in Cabo Rojo and Maricao (370 -
379). Soils in the southern coastal plains of Puerto Rico continue
with precipitation deficit and dry soils, contributing to rapid
fire spread. Given the expected conditions, fire danger conditions
will be elevated today for southern Puerto Rico. Therefore, a
Fire Danger Statement has been issued.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and spread
of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
