.KEY MESSAGES...

- Hot and dry conditions through next weekend.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 202 PM CDT Tue Aug 5 2025

Early this afternoon, temperatures were in the upper 90s to around
100 degrees. This is due to a 596 dam upper-level ridge that has
positioned itself over far west Texas and southern New Mexico. This
ridge will build slightly northeastward and strengthen through
tomorrow. Models show 850mb temperatures of 20-22 deg C during the
day, which should result in another day of hot and above-normal
temperatures. Numerical guidance shows high temperatures ranging
from the upper 90s to low 100s, with the warmest conditions over the
western Big Country. Rain chances will be next to nothing as the
strengthening ridge should suppress convection across west central
Texas.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through next Tuesday)
Issued at 111 PM CDT Tue Aug 5 2025

Hot and dry conditions continue. Upper ridging centered over New
Mexico will expand slightly eastward. Temperatures warm back into
the 100 to 104 range this week in the Big Country and Concho
Valley, with mid and upper 90s to the south. Temperatures will
likely remain just below heat advisory criteria in the Big
Country.

The upper ridge does weaken slightly Sunday into Tuesday next week.
There is an outside chance of showers/thunderstorms (10 percent
less) day 7 (Tuesday), but did not add any thunderstorms at this
time.
