.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 457 AM CDT Mon May 12 2025

An upper level low pressure system will sit across eastern Texas
and Louisiana before eventually shifting off to the east. This
will leave our area with quiet weather across our portion of the
state. Expect highs in the mid 80s to lower 90s, and lows will be
in the upper 40s to lower 50s to start out the morning. Winds
will shift around to the southwest by 5 to 10 MPH.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through Sunday)
Issued at 357 AM CDT Mon May 12 2025

Short wave ridging will develop across the southern Plains
Tuesday into Wednesday, along with a strengthening low level
thermal ridge across West Texas. This pattern will result in hot
temperatures across the area both days, with highs between 100
and 106 degrees, highest across the southern half of the forecast
area. Records for both Abilene and San Angelo may be tied or
possibly broken on Tuesday. Official forecast highs for Abilene
and San Angelo on Tuesday are 101 and 102, respectively, with
current records of 100 and 102, respectively. Temperatures for
Wednesday will be similar, perhaps a degree or two warmer but
record highs appear safe at this time. Current record highs for
Abilene and San Angelo on Wednesday are 105 degrees and 108
degrees, respectively.

A short wave trough will swing through the central Plains
Wednesday night and early Thursday, with an associated weak front
moving into the area during the day Thursday. The front will
bring cooler temperatures to the area, but still above normal,
with highs on Thursday ranging from the upper 80s and lower 90s
across the Big Country, to the upper 90s along the I-10 corridor.
Southwest flow aloft develops across the region from late week
into the upcoming weekend, with above normal temperatures
persisting. Highs will be mainly in the mid and upper 90s. Low
level moisture will increase by the weekend, leading to higher
instability across the area. A developing dryline to our west,
combined with periodic disturbances in the flow aloft, may result
in thunderstorm development by the weekend. However, details are
too uncertain this far out, so precipitation chances will remain
low at this time.
