686 FXUS64 KSJT 061123 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 623 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2024 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm, dry, and quiet weather expected through the next week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 327 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2024 Expect another warm day with generally light winds. Upper level ridging will remain over the area. The main difference between today and the previous few days will be wind direction. Our winds will be influenced by surface high pressure building southeast into the southern Great Lakes region, turning our winds to the east/northeast. Otherwise, we`re still expecting highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s, and lows tonight in the upper 50s to lower 60s. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Saturday) Issued at 227 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2024 A benign forecast is on tap for at least the next week or so as upper level ridging over much of the southern US continues to dominate the upper level pattern. Temperatures are expected to gradually warm through Thursday as the 850 mb thermal ridge strengthens by midweek with 850 mb temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. High temperatures at the start of the week will be in the upper 80s to low 90s with highs by Wednesday and Thursday climbing into the low to mid 90s areawide. Some guidance is even hinting at the potential for temperatures in the upper 90s for some locations which would be between 10-15 degrees above normal for early/mid October. The 850 mb thermal ridge starts to weaken by Friday with highs by the weekend falling back into the mid 80s to low 90s. Overnight lows through the long term will remain consistent in the upper 50s to low 60s. Expect plenty of sunshine through the period with near zero rain chances through next weekend. Mid-range models are suggesting that a cold front may move through our area early next week but current indications show that this would be a dry frontal passage with no rain expected at this time. It may bring temperatures back down closer to normal for next week but for now, the warm and dry pattern should be expected for the foreseeable future. && .AVIATION...
