981 FXUS64 KSJT 191116 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 516 AM CST Sun Jan 19 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Very cold/arctic air moving into the area and lingering today through at least the first half of next week. - Low to medium chances for wintry precipitation Monday night into Tuesday south of the I-20 corridor. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 238 AM CST Sun Jan 19 2025 It is much colder across the area early this morning as the arctic airmass/cold air advection has arrived. Current temperatures are in the mid to upper 20s. Wind chills were in the lower to mid teens due to gusty north winds. Will keep the Cold Weather Advisory going until 9 AM. It will be very cold today and tonight with highs only in the 30s and lows in the mid teens to lower 20s. The wind chills will probably fall below 10 above across much of the area late tonight due to gusty southeast winds. Going with a dry forecast the next 24 hours. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Saturday) Issued at 303 AM CST Sun Jan 19 2025 The work week kicks off under a very cold airmass settled in over the area through Wednesday morning, with sub-freezing overnight low temperatures in the mid teens to lower 20s throughout this time period. With breezy winds expected Monday morning through Tuesday morning, wind chill values are expected to drop into the lower teens to single digits across much of the area early Monday morning, Tuesday morning, and again on Wednesday morning. As a shortwave disturbance begins to work its way through West Central Texas Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, models are showing decent lift and low to mid-level moisture available to result in precipitation developing. With these colder temperatures in place, we are expecting this bout of precipitation to fall primarily as light snow south of the I-20 corridor. For the second half of the week, temperatures should gradually warm back up to the 50s as the coldest airmass retreats to the north. However, models continue to show a series of upper-level troughs passing through the eastern half of the country during this time with potentially another cold front on Thursday. Conditions for the rest of this week will depend heavily on how quickly this arctic airmass gets eroded on Wednesday and Thursday. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 515 AM CST Sun Jan 19 2025 Expect VFR conditions for the next 24 hours. Expect gusty north winds this morning at the southern terminals, then the winds will decrease to less than 10 knots late this afternoon. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
