Above average temperatures persist across the Santa Ana Mountains with an Excessive Heat Warning in effect until Monday evening. The marine layer remains notably shallow, with the lower elevations seeing fair moisture recovery (~50-70%) Sunday and Monday mornings, but poor recoveries (15-30%) for the higher elevations. Afternoon humidity falls to around 15-20% both Sunday and Monday afternoon. Winds remain light and generally variable, with terrain-dominated wind directions. .7 DAY OUTLOOK... Upper level ridging remains in control across the southwestern US through the weekend and into early next week, but gives way to an upper trough by mid week. This pattern favors continued well-above normal temperatures through Tuesday, but trending closer to normal by Thurs/Fri. The marine layer should gradually deepen through mid-week as well, with somewhat better moisture recovery, primarily for the lower elevations.
