Tornado No. 1: ...NWS/Watauga County Emergency Management Survey for September 25, 2024 Tornado Event in Watauga County NC near Blowing Rock NC. Note, this tornado occurred with what is known as a Predecessor Rain Event (PRE) associated with the pre-arrival effects of Hurricane Helene. The remaining tornadoes detailed below were associated with the right quadrant circulation of the remnants of Hurricane Helene. Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 86-90 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.6 mile Path Width /maximum/: approximately 75 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 09/25/2024 Start Time: 6:38 PM EDT Start Location: 0.1 mile north of Blowing Rock NC Start Lat/Lon: 36.13639/-81.67685 End Date: September 25, 2024 End Time: 6:40 PM EDT End Location: 0.7 mile northeast of Blowing Rock NC End Lat/Lon: 36.14353/-81.67208 Survey Summary: The NWS in coordination with Watauga County NC Emergency Management determined that a tornado had touched down near the intersection of Birch Drive and Hill Street in Blowing Rock NC and traveled northeast for approximately 0.6 mile before lifting northeast of Chetola Lake Drive. Several softwood and a few hardwood trees were uprooted and snapped along the path of the tornado and a few free standing tents near Bass Lake Drive and Chetola Lake Drive were blown down. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tornado No. 2: ...NWS Damage Survey for September 27, 2024 Tornado Event in Pittsylvania County, VA... Rating: EF-2 Estimated Peak Wind: 118 mph Path Length /statute/: 6.85 miles Path Width /maximum/: 225 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: September 27, 2024 Start Time: 2:38 PM EDT Start Location: 3 miles west southwest of Dry Fork, VA Start Lat/Lon: 36.73/-79.47 End Date: September 27, 2024 End Time: 2:56 PM EDT End Location: 6 miles west of Chatham, VA End Lat/Lon: 36.82/-79.51 Survey Summary: Around 30 structures were damaged, including one mobile home that was completely destroyed. Numerous hardwood and softwood trees were snapped and uprooted. Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 105-110 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.24 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: September 27, 2024 Start Time: 4:11 PM EDT Start Location: 3 miles southwest of Bedford, VA Start Lat/Lon: 37.30/-79.57 End Date: September 27, 2024 End Time: 4:16 PM EDT End Location: 2.75 miles WSW of Bedford, VA End Lat/Lon: 37.32/-79.57 Survey Summary: A tornado touched down south of the intersection of Dickerson Mill Road and Hobby Drive, where minor roof damage occurred at one home. The tornado then traveled north-northwest, largely paralleling Fiddler Creek Road, while snapping and uprooting numerous hardwood and softwood trees. Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90-95 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.35 miles Path Width /maximum/: 50 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: September 27, 2024 Start Time: 3:25 PM EDT Start Location: 5 miles East of Stoneville,NC Start Lat/Lon: 36.44/-79.82 End Date: September 27, 2024 End Time: 3:27 PM EDT End Location: 4.8 miles east of Stoneville, NC End Lat/Lon: 36.48/-79.82 Survey Summary: A tornado briefly touched down around Heffinger Road where it damaged 4 metal structures, including removing the roofing. A few hardwood trees were also blown down and solar paneling was detached from the roof of one home. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tornado No. 5 ...NWS Damage Survey for 09/26/2024 Tornado Event in Wilkes County NC... .Wilkes County Tornado... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.4 miles Path Width /maximum/: 75 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: September 26, 2024 Start Time: 12:03 PM EDT Start Location: 1.4 miles south of Lomax Start Lat/Lon: 36.27794/-80.99399 End Date: September 26, 2024 End Time: 12:04 PM EDT End Location: 1 mile south of Lomax End Lat/Lon: 36.28557/-81.00148 Survey Summary: An EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 90 mph briefly touched down just south of the Greenhorn Rd. and Burcham intersection. This tornado lifted less than a half of a mile northwest of this location. Several trees were uprooted and snapped, shingles were taken off a home, and multiple roofing panels from a barn were blown off. Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90-95 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.15 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: September 27, 2024 Start Time: 4:44 PM EDT Start Location: 3 Miles NE of Keeling Start Lat/Lon: 36.747/-79.238 End Date: September 27, 2024 End Time: 4:46 PM EDT End Location: 3.1 Miles NE of Keeling End Lat/Lon: 36.749/-79.238 A survey team from NWS Blacksburg found evidence of a short lived EF-1 tornado that touched down near the intersection of Dodson Road and Slatesville Road. This tornado lifted approximately 0.15 miles north near Slatesville Road. Several trees were blown down by the tornado, but no damage to structures were observed.
