Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and Central Wyoming
National Weather Service Riverton WY
311 AM MDT Mon Sep 30 2024

.DISCUSSION...

...Yellowstone NP and Teton dispatch areas (includes fire weather
zones 140...414...415...and 416)...

Today will be a cooler day behind the passage of a cold front.
Relative humidity will remain low, falling under 15 percent in
some locations. However, wind should remain light to moderate,
with the strongest wind in the southern zones. Mixing and
smoke dispersal will be generally good to very good in the
afternoon.

...Cody dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 275...276...
282...283...285...286...287...288...and 289)...

***RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR ZONE 289***

Today will be a much cooler day behind the passage of a cold
front. Wind will remain gusty through, especially in northern
portions of Zones 276 and 275 where wind gusts to over 40 mph
are possible in the morning before decreasing in the afternoon.
Wind gusts should remain 30 mph or less elsewhere. Relative
humidity falling into the teens will bring elevated fire weather
to many locations this afternoon. Critical fire weather is
still expected in Zone 289 this afternoon. Mixing and smoke
dispersal will be generally good to very good in the afternoon.

...Casper dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 277...278...
279...280...281...285...289...and 300)...

***RED FLAG WARNING FOR ZONES 277...278...279 AND 289 TODAY***

A combination of still warm temperatures and wind gusting to
around 30 mph will bring critical fire weather to the southern
zones again today. In the northern zones, somewhat higher
relative humidity and much cooler temperatures should prevent
widespread critical fire weather, although elevated fire
weather is likely. Wind gusts over 40 mph are likely in Zone
281 this morning before decreasing in the afternoon. Mixing
and smoke dispersal will be generally good to excellent. Elevated
to possible critical fire weather is possible Tuesday afternoon
from Rock Springs to Casper.

...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds...
...Haines Index is high level Haines both day and night...
