109 FXUS65 KREV 052009 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 109 PM PDT Tue Aug 5 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Warm and dry weather with breezy afternoon winds will prevail throughout the week. * Hotter temperatures are likely this weekend into next week with triple digit heat possible in lowest valleys. && .DISCUSSION... We are continuing our streak of uneventful weather across the region today with clear skies, generally light winds, and slightly below normal temperatures. Going forward, latest model and ensemble analysis shows strong high pressure centered over NM through the weekend. Meanwhile a long-wave trough currently in the Gulf of Alaska will move into the Pacific Northwest by Thursday, and into the northern Rockies by Friday. With the passage of this trough, the daily afternoon westerly breezes will likely be strongest tomorrow and on Thursday. Otherwise, we`ll maintain a slow warming trend all week, with seasonal temperatures and typical afternoon breezes. Heading into the weekend, strong high pressure will setup over the eastern Pacific/western US. This will lead to a pronounced warming trend by Saturday through at least the first half of next week. This warm-up still poses a moderate (2 out of 4) HeatRisk for lower valleys in western NV, eastern Lassen, and Mono counties. As for any precipitation, we`ll be dry through at least the next 7-days. -McKellar && .AVIATION... Widespread VFR conditions and breezy afternoon winds will prevail throughout the remainder of the week. W/SW surface gusts of 20-25 kts will develop across Sierra Front terminals this afternoon, possibility inducing minor LLWS impacts at KRNO-KCXP-KMEV until winds subside in the evening. Winds trend slightly stronger Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, renewing potential for LLWS impacts. -McKellar && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...None. CA...None. && $$
