.DISCUSSION...

Near to slightly above normal temperatures will lead-off this week
with today`s daytime highs in the low-80s for Sierra communities and
low to mid 90s for western Nevada valleys. Breezy northwest to north
winds will arrive in the afternoon for western Nevada with
occasional gusts to 25 mph expected into the early evening.

An upper, eastern Pacific ridge will gradually amplify as it
translates eastward towards the western states, promoting a steady
warming trend this week and into the weekend. As a result,
temperatures will become 10-15 degrees above normal from midweek
onward with lower western Nevada locales (i.e. the Greater Reno-
Carson City-Minden area, Fallon, Lovelock) flirting with triple
digit daytime highs on the July 4th holiday. Friday through Sunday
will feature the hottest conditions with highs in the 90s for Sierra
communities and upper 90s to 105F for western Nevada valleys. To
compound the heat risk, nighttime lows in the mid 60s to 70F will
provide little to no relief from the daytime heat from Thursday
through Sunday.

As such, a prolonged period of moderate to major HeatRisk will exist
from midweek onward for portions of the Sierra and a vast majority
of western Nevada. It is highly encouraged to consider the upcoming
heat risk when making plans for this week and weekend, especially
for Independence Day, and to take your heat safety precautions! On a
more positive note, mostly clear skies remain favored for the
evening of July 4th so anticipate excellent firework viewing
conditions!

.AVIATION...

Widespread VFR conditions and breezy NW-N surface winds in the
afternoon (up to 20 kts) are expected today. E-NE FL100 winds will
increase to 20-25 kts from the Tahoe Basin southward tonight,
perhaps supporting light to moderate turbulence from the Sierra
crest westward into California between 06-12Z tonight.

VFR conditions will largely prevail this week with a steady warming
trend possibly creating density altitude issues later this week and
weekend.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Breezy northwest to north winds of 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph
will couple with daytime humidity of 10-15% and abundant sunshine
this afternoon for eastern Lassen County into western Nevada along
and north of I-80. As such, a brief 2-4 hour period of elevated to
locally critical fire weather conditions will evolve this afternoon
for this region. Furthermore, isolated lightning did occur in this
area during the late afternoon yesterday so today`s fire weather
conditions may exacerbate any holdover ignitions.

The remainder of the week will feature widespread warming, yielding
a prolonged period of above average temperatures, very low daytime
humidities, poor overnight humidities, and deep mixing heights.
