.DISCUSSION...

Current radar imagery shows lingering showers out in W NV Basin,
from Stagecoach and eastward. As the low pressure system tracks
east, those showers will push out of the area by early evening
today. This system produced up to 20" down in Mammoth Mountain,
7-12" around the Tahoe Basin above 7000`, and plenty of rain
across the valleys. The Reno International Airport reported 0.25"
of rain with NWS Reno reporting 0.37".

Today will conclude the wet weather this week with drying
conditions returning tomorrow and through at least Saturday as a
ridging pattern sets back up. This will allow temperatures to
return to mid-October normals by this weekend. Today will be one
last chilly day with highs in the mid 50s and upper 40s for
valleys and higher elevations, respectively. However, cold
mornings will continue with overnight lows in the low to mid 30s
for valleys and upper 20s for Sierra communities tomorrow morning.
As that ridging pattern sets up, overnight lows will also start to
come up.

Keeping in mind those overnight lows in the 20s for Sierra
communities and the abundance of moisture we`ve had the past
couple of days, the risk for fog and freezing fog will be possible
overnight tonight and into the morning hours for fog-prone
locations. This includes Truckee and the Martis valley. This may
bring slowdowns to the morning commute; make sure to use your low
beams and leave extra space.

Looking into early next week, another trough may brush by the
area, bringing increased winds and chances for precipitation.
There is still plenty of model uncertainty on the track of this
system; the models don`t want to agree on the southerly extent of
the system. However, this system looks to be weaker than the
system we had this week. Stay tuned for more concrete details as
we get closer.

.AVIATION...

MVFR conditions for KTRK/KTVL through the evening due to low CIGS.
Otherwise, VFR conditions prevail for all terminals with light
winds. CIGS will dissipate by 16/03Z at the latest, reducing
mountain obscurations. The only exception will be KTRK after
16/12Z, where BR/FZFG is possible through 16/17Z.
