.Discussion...
Incoming tropical moisture will bring widespread showers and
thunderstorms to portions of the Continental Divide, starting this
morning and lasting through most of the weekend. Heavy rainfall is
expected for portions of the mountains, especially the San Juans,
with areas receiving 2 to 3 inches of rain. Flash flooding will be
possible especially on southwest facing slopes of this region Friday
Night and Saturday. Other mountainous areas may receive up to an
inch or so of rainfall, with less elsewhere. At this time, little to
snow is expected, with snow levels remaining near or above 13,500
feet.
The eastern plains will remain dry other than an isolated shower or
two near the mountains, with temperatures remaining above average. A
brief cooling trend is expected late this weekend into early next
week, before temperatures begin to warm. Daily shower and
thunderstorm chances are expected to persist across the mountains.
Afternoon smoke dispersions will vary greatly across the area today,
poor over most areas besides the far southeast plains and parts of
the Palmer Divide. Please refer to the zone forecasts below for more
specific information. For Saturday, dispersions will be very good or
better over the far eastern plains, fair to good over I-25 and the
valleys, and poor across the mountains.
