Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwest and South-Central
Arizona and Southeast California
National Weather Service Phoenix AZ
405 AM MST Fri Feb 28 2025

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE SATURDAY MORNING
THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITY...AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...
Temperatures will be well above normal again today, with highs in
the lower 80s expected across the lower deserts. Wind speeds today
will be much calmer with the highest winds in the higher terrain
to the east of Phoenix with gusts of 15-20 mph. MinRHs will be
still be extremely low and in the 7-15% range. A weather system
moving into the region tomorrow will allow for temperatures to
fall into the mid-to-upper 70s across southeastern CA and
southwestern AZ. This system won`t be through central and eastern
AZ prior to peak heating, so temperatures tomorrow will be similar
to today for the lower deserts of south- central AZ (highs in the
low-to- mid 80s) and the higher terrain in eastern AZ (mid- to-
upper 70s). This weather system will bring a slight chance for
light rain or virga showers, mainly to the higher terrain to the
north and east of Phoenix. The main impact with this weather
systems will be windy conditions. Tomorrow will see elevated to
critical fire weather conditions across the eastern district where
a Fire Weather Watch has been issued from 11am - 6pm. Wind speeds
of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph is expected along with low
RH (minRH of 9-12%), and widespread very dry fuels. Wind gusts of
35-45 mph are also expected across western Imperial County with
gusts of up to 30 mph expected elsewhere across the lower deserts.
