During the defined growing season, NWS Portland issues frost and freeze headlines as needed for impacts to agriculture. These headlines include Frost Advisories, Freeze Watches, and Freeze Warnings. NWS Portland defines growing season as April 1st through October 31st across all of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. Beginning November 1st, frost and freeze headlines will no longer be issued until the next growing season begins on April 1st. If impacts from abnormally cold temperatures are expected at any time between November 1st and March 31st, NWS Portland will issue cold headlines as needed. These headlines include Cold Weather Advisories, Extreme Cold Watches, and Extreme Cold Warnings. People are strongly urged to follow local forecasts and take preventative actions when below freezing temperatures are in the forecast. $$ TJK
