Choppy seas and elevated surf continue across the Marshall Islands due to large northeast winds and swell waves, along with long-period north swell generated by storms moving across the north Pacific. The north swell has likely peaked across most of the region, and will start to gradually diminish. The large northeast swell waves and gusty winds could persist for a few days. Wave models indicate the north swell of about 5 to 7 feet across the Marshall Islands will subside to 4 to 6 feet tonight, then 3 to 5 feet on Saturday. Hazardous surf of 10 to 12 feet and minor coastal inundation could persist through tonight and Saturday along north facing shores, especially during high tide. All of the atolls with lagoons may still see impacts from this north swell event, so be mindful when near the water or traveling along roads near north facing shores. Also, with the elevated trade winds and waves during this same time, inter-island travel in small boats will be hazardous with seas of 10 feet and higher at times, and winds around 25 knots. Residents should still monitor local sea conditions and forecasts and be alert for minor flooding and debris on roads and property near shore lines, along with hazardous surfing, swimming, and boating conditions. Stay up to date with information from your Weather Service Office in Majuro, and any information shared from local emergency management offices. The latest Majuro forecasts can be found at weather.gov/gum/PublicForecasts. This is the last scheduled Special Weather Statement for this event. $$ Simpson
