A trough lingering over the Islands continues to produce widespread showers across the territory. This feature is evident on latest satellite data showing a moist line extending across the region, while cool and dry air pushes from the southwest. WSO Pago Pago recorded near 2 inches of rain since 11 PM last night, which prompted a Flash Flood Watch. The watch is in effect until tonight, or when flash flooding conditions diminish. The trough is forecast to remain in the area through the week. However, brief breaks in rainfall are anticipated on Tuesday and again on Friday as the trough shifts slightly northward. Between these periods, another increase in showers is possible as the trough drifts back over the Islands. Winds are expected to increase to breezy conditions on Tuesday as trade winds return. This shift is due to a building high pressure system located to the southwest of the region (associated with the dry air currently seen on satellite), which will strengthen the trade wind flow across the territory. Expect wind direction to be from the east- southeast. && .Marine... Latest wave heights recorded at the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy is around 8 to 10 feet. Although wave heights were expected to fall below advisory thresholds by tonight, observed wave heights have far exceeded the forecasted wave heights. For this reason, the high surf and small craft advisories remain in effect. Additionally, a southeast swell will persist across the region throughout the week. In combination with increasing winds, this will maintain rough ocean conditions, high surf, and an elevated risk of strong rip currents. Mariners and beachgoers are advised to exercise caution. .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Flash Flood Watch High Surf Advisory Small Craft Advisory && $$ TM
