Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
153 PM SST Sun Nov 30 2025

.Short term...

Showers and thunderstorms continued over American Samoa today as
the slow moving trough remains over the territory. Cloudy skies
and widespread showers are once again forecast for tonight with
the possibility of more thunderstorms. With the amount of rainfall
this past week and the additional rain that may occur through late
tonight, a Flood Watch remains in effect through tonight.

As a low pressure system develops to the east of American Samoa
overnight and Monday, this is forecast to absorb the moisture
currrently over the territory. Numerous showers (60% chance)
forecast for Monday morning is to reduce to scattered showers (40%
chance) in the afternoon. By the evening, the trough is
anticipated to weaken as it moves away from American Samoa.

Overall, the weather pattern developing for next week will provide
a much drier forecast compared to this past week. For the
beginning to mid- week, a weak high pressure system is to move
over American Samoa. If showers develop, it would be in the
passing form. Flash flooding from this rainfall is not likely.
With temperatures above normal with weak winds, it will feel more
humid than usual.

.Long term...

For late in the week and into next weekend, drier than normal air
is forecast to move in from the south as the aforementioned low
remains off to the east. Not much change is anticipated in the
weather pattern compared to the beginning to middle of the
upcoming week. Winds remain weak, but the risk of showers
decreases slightly to isolated to scattered showers (20 to 30%
chance).

.Marine...

A trough over the American Samoa coastal waters has been
responsible for scattered thunderstorms across the region this
weekend. However, this slow moving trough is anticipated to move
away from the region by tomorrow morning. Winds are forecast to
remain weak throughout the upcoming week. Even though a weak
northerly swell is to continue throughout the majority of the
week, seas are anticipated to be below Small Craft Advisory levels
for the next 5 days.
