.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Issued at 1255 AM MDT Thu Aug 28 2025

Low pressure will begin to pull away from the region today. Models
are still showing good chances for showers and thunderstorms in the
Island Park and Driggs areas where an additional 0.25 inches is
likely today. Outside of there, chances look fairly isolated and NBM
rain chances may be somewhat overdone outside of the upper Snake
highlands. Noticeably drier air will work into the area today.
Precipitable water values will fall from around an inch this morning
to under 0.75 inches by late this afternoon. Associated dew point
values will start the day in the low 50s and end the day in the
lower 40s. High temps today will still be in the 70s for most
communities today. Most of the showers should dissipate this evening
although the HRRR hangs on to some slight chances for a couple hours
after midnight across the eastern highlands. Overnight lows for most
communities should range from the mid 40s to around 50.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 144 PM MDT Wed Aug 27 2025

Air mass over East Idaho continues to trend drier moving into
Friday, though isolated thunderstorms remain possible mainly over
higher terrain and trending back toward a mix of wet/dry with gusty
wind threat. A ridge of high pressure rebuilds across the Great
Basin for the Labor Day weekend, though the blend maintains a weak
threat of isolated thunderstorms across some areas Labor Day. The
GFS may be the main driver here as it tries to rotate a weak
shortwave around the low parked over off the PacNW coast into East
Idaho. Daytime highs return to the 80s by Sunday for most lower
elevation areas, remaining there for the remainder of the forecast
period.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/...
Issued at 1027 PM MDT Wed Aug 27 2025

Showers are slowly moving out of the area. Expect VCSH for KIDA
the next couple of hours. Look for MVFR to near MVFR conditions
for KIDA and KPIH the next couple of hours. These MVFR CIGS could
extend into early tomorrow morning. Showers are still possible
for DIJ through early morning. Any showers for DIJ will bring
MVFR conditions. Expect dry conditions to work into the area
from the west tonight into tomorrow. Winds will pick up slightly
(gusts to 15 to 18 mph) for PIH and IDA tomorrow afternoon.
VCSH are possible for PIH and especially IDA tomorrow afternoon
as well. Have put in a PROB30 for thunderstorms for DIJ for
tomorrow afternoon. High pressure builds in over the entire area
and brings lighter winds and mostly clear skies by early
tomorrow evening.
