Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NE Oregon and SE Washington
National Weather Service Pendleton OR
230 PM PDT Tue Jul 1 2025

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 9 PM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR
WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES WA690,
WA691, AND OR691...
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT THIS EVENING FOR
ABUNDANT LIGHTNING FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE OR700...

.DISCUSSION...A ridge of high pressure overhead is inducing hot
and dry conditions across the region. Dry thunderstorms have
already initiated this afternoon across central Oregon. The ridge
of high pressure is anticipated to break down further on
Wednesday, with west winds picking up through the Cascade gaps.
With RHs having little time to recover from the heat, this will
lead to critical fire weather conditions across the Kittitas
Valley and into the Columbia Basin.

***Thunderstorms imply strong gusty winds***
***Winds are 20 foot 10 minute averages***
***CWR-chance of wetting rain 0.10 or greater***
***Ventilation Index is derived from the
transport wind multiplied by the mixing
height in 100`s of feet. Index categories
are a generalized indicator and users are
encourage to develop criteria that are
   suitable and representative of dispersion
conditions in their local area of interest.***
Note: Max transport winds may not occur
at the same time as max mixing height.
