...HEAVY RAINFALL EXPECTED FROM REMNANTS OF HURRICANE HELENE
THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...

The remnants of Hurricane Helene are expected to drift north and
westward into the Quad State region as it merges with an upper-
level low across the area. The greatest chance of seeing
widespread tropical downpours will be Thursday night through
Friday night as the tropical system becomes nearly stationary over
the area.

Rainfall totals in the 2 to 5 inch range will be widespread
across the Quad State before the system gradually weakens toward
the first half of the weekend. The greatest totals are most
likely to occur across west Kentucky into southeast Missouri.

The region has been in drought over the past month, so most of the
rivers and streams will be able to handle the heavy rainfall
totals. There is still a chance that localized flooding could
occur in low-lying areas and especially where heavy rain falls in
a short period of time.
