Area Forecast Discussion...CORRECTED
National Weather Service Norman OK
1214 AM CDT Wed Aug 20 2025

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 1212 AM CDT Wed Aug 20 2025

 - Scattered showers/storms continue overnight.

 - Heat advisory for southeast Oklahoma today.

 - Less hot and dry for the latter half of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM...
(Through Wednesday)
Issued at 1206 AM CDT Wed Aug 20 2025

Storms continue to shift southward, leaving a slightly cooler
airmass in their wake. CAMs suggest some additional development will
be possible before sunrise across southwest Oklahoma and parts of
north Texas (aided by outflow from previous storms). Severe risk
should remain low.

Wednesday will be slightly cooler across most of the area (highs in
the mid 90s). Heat advisory for southeast Oklahoma still looks on
track as the hot, moist airmass is slower to get overturned in this
area.

Diurnally driven storms will be possible again this afternoon near
and south of the Red River. Depending on how far the front advances,
this activity may end up farther south keeping our forecast area
mostly dry.

Day

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Wednesday night through Friday night)
Issued at 1206 AM CDT Wed Aug 20 2025

Thursday and Friday, we`ll be between systems, so "less hot" (highs
in the low to mid 90s) and dry. By Thursday, enough of the cooler,
drier air should have moved in to keep us out of heat advisory
territory.

Day

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Tuesday)
Issued at 1206 AM CDT Wed Aug 20 2025

Over the weekend, a shortwave will approach, bringing low rain
chances to northern Oklahoma and keeping temperatures near normal.

Another wave will move through early next week, bringing a stronger
dose of cold air (temperatures below the 25th, possibly 10th,
percentile of climatology) and higher rain chances.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1049 PM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025

Showers and storms continue to decrease in coverage but will
linger across southern Oklahoma and into north Texas through the
early morning hours. Additional storms are possible Wednesday
afternoon, but low chances (10-20%) preclude mention at this time.
Otherwise, light north to northeast winds are expected through the
period.
