Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Nebraska/Southwest Iowa
National Weather Service Omaha/Valley NE
1206 PM CDT Thu Mar 27 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Expect a warm and mostly sunny afternoon with temperatures in the
mid 70s across northeast Nebraska into west-central Iowa to mid
80s near and south of a warm front roughly along I-80 with
minimum RH values in the mid 30s to mid 40s area-wide. Winds will
be around 10 to 15 mph with a few gusts of 20 mph, out of the east
to southeast north of the front and out of the south to the south.
Could see a few showers and storms develop along the front this
evening in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, but chances
remain in the 20-40% range.

For Friday, expect a warm, sunny, and dry day with highs in the
80s and RH values falling into the teens and 20s in northeast
Nebraska and lower to mid 30s elsewhere. Winds will largely be out
of the southwest with gusts of 30-45 mph. This will bring very
high to potentially extreme fire danger to much of the area. The
biggest question will be in portions of northeast Nebraska where
the low relative humidity may not overlap with the strong wind
gusts (looking like 20-30 mph there). In addition, expect a wind
shift to northerly winds in those areas late in the afternoon as a
cold front pushes in. This front could also bring some
thunderstorms during the evening and overnight hours.
