Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Nebraska/Southwest Iowa
National Weather Service Omaha/Valley NE
1122 AM CDT Sun Mar 9 2025

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
MONDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Perhaps a few fire weather concerns today with RH values dropping
into the lower to mid 20s across southeast NE into far southwest
IA this afternoon, but westerly winds are expected to largely
remain below 20 mph in those areas.

Very high to extreme fire danger is expected on Monday with
temperatures in the upper 60s to upper 70s, west to southwest
winds gusting 25-30+ mph, and RH values falling into the teens
and lower 20s. The biggest question will be how much fuels are
able to dry out following our recent precipitation and melting
snow. For now, issued a Fire Weather Watch for areas where little
to no snow cover remains (southeast NE and southwest IA).
