...Very Strong Thunderstorms Possible This Afternoon...

An unusually unstable airmass is setting the stage for numerous
strong thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening.
Thunderstorms will develop along the Brooks Range around noon,
then traverse north through the Arctic Plain this afternoon and to
the Arctic Coast this evening. Any thunderstorm has the chance to
bring hail up to 1 inch in diameter, heavy rain, frequent
lightning and gusty winds up to 50 mph. Thunderstorms will
diminish in coverage around midnight, though an isolated storm may
continue in the Eastern Brooks Range through the morning hours.
