Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
248 AM MDT Thu Oct 10 2024

.DISCUSSION...A weak disturbance today may bring a light shower or
virga clouds. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler with the
clouds, yet still run 5 to 10 degrees above normal.

If you like this warmer than normal, well sit back, relax, and
watch the mercury warm even further through the weekend. By
Monday, temperatures will be running almost 20 degrees above
normal but only Orofino, ID is forecast to be close to a record
(82F set in 1929).

Ridge breakdown is still in the models for late next work week.
While details are still fuzzy, I am going to go out on a limb that
temperatures will cool, potentially back to normal, and
precipitation is depicted in 60% of the models.

.AVIATION...A disturbance is bringing mid-level clouds, flight
category is not expected to go below VFR for ceiling at any
terminals today. Winds will be lighter, which could allow for
visibility degradation at KSMN, KHRF, and KBTM due to local
wildfire smoke throughout the morning. Some improvement is
expected this afternoon with light winds developing.
