.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 107 AM EDT Thu Aug 28 2025

Key Messages:

1. Though temperatures are expected to moderate some, readings
will still average just below normal through the term.

2. Dry for the next couple of days before precipitation creeps
back into the area from the south on Saturday. Afternoon and
evening scattered activity appears to return during the new work-
week.

Discussion:

The Thursday into Friday precipitation that looked like would
squeak north from a Gulf boundary, will stay suppressed well to
the south now. The dry weather will continue. At least through
Saturday, especially for those closest to GA and along the
Southern Appalachians. Closer to KY and into SW VA, might be a
couple of more extra days until precipitation chances return. NW
flow and surface high pressure will limit much moisture return to
the region.

The latter half of Labor Day weekend will feature an
increase of probability of precipitation Sunday into Monday
timeframe, primarily for south and east of I-40 up to I-81. For
the new work-week, greater coverage of showers and possible
thunderstorms will be best during the PM hours. Mean low-level
flow will return out of the south, bringing increased moisture and
thus instability, back to the area. 60s dew points re-enter the
southern valley beginning Saturday and it only moves north from
there. Troughing sinks further south and amplifies the more we
get into next week, with impulse waves sweeping through from the
NW. Eventually, a cold front moves overhead just beyond the
forecast period under lower heights aloft circling a closed low.

After today, highs will top out around the mid 80s for the valley
Friday and Saturday. Highs will then slightly fall to the low 80s
for early next week. Even with the increase in temperatures from
the cooler days we`ve had, readings will still be a bit below
normal. Increased humidity though probably wouldn`t make a
difference even with a couple of degrees cooler temperatures.
