FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN...CORRECTED
National Weather Service Marquette MI
607 AM EDT Fri May 16 2025

...Limited Fire Weather Concerns Interior West...

.DISCUSSION...Expect breezy winds to develop across the area today
as a low-level jet moves in ahead of a secondary cold front this
afternoon. With us being under the dry slot of the low this morning
into this afternoon, expect the mostly sunny skies to get highs into
the mid to upper 70s and RHs down to as low as the upper 20 percents
in the interior west in Ontonagon, southern Houghton, and Baraga
counties. However, even given the southerly wind gusts up to 30 to
potentially even 40 mph, no SPS has been issued for these areas due
to the recent rainfall over the past 24 hours. The secondary cold
front will bring additional showers and storms to mainly the central
and eastern U.P. late this afternoon into early this evening, with a
few of the storms bringing damaging winds and hail across the area.
As the low moves along southern Lake Superior, expect the wrap-
around moisture to bring light rain showers to the area late tonight
into Saturday. The light showers continue through this weekend.
