.SHORT TERM...
Issued 253 PM CDT Sun Mar 9 2025

Tonight through Monday night:

Gusty southwest winds will continue into the early evening
hours, before easing. Temperatures will top out this afternoon
in the upper 50s to near 60, and will quickly fall into the 40s
this evening. Overnight lows will be in the mid 30s.

Breezy southwest flow continues on Monday, ahead of a cold front
that will pass through the region late Monday night. Highs
tomorrow are expected to reach the mid to perhaps even upper
60s. Existing record highs for March 10 are 68 (1879) for
Milwaukee, and 66 (1894) for Madison. Both sites will come close
to tying or breaking their existing records.

No precipitation is expected with the front late Monday night,
but winds will shift around to the north, with cooler
temperatures expected for Tuesday.

.LONG TERM...
Issued 253 PM CDT Sun Mar 9 2025

Tuesday through Sunday:

Brisk northerly flow is expected through the first part of the
day Tuesday, with highs ranging from the low 40s north to mid to
upper 40s south. Winds will start to weaken during the afternoon
hours as high pressure builds into the area.

That high will scoot off to the east for Wednesday, with winds
turning southeasterly. Both Wednesday and Thursday will feature
significant temperature gradients across the forecast area due
to the southeast flow off of Lake Michigan and the likelihood
for a strong lake breeze during the afternoon hours. Highs
Wednesday are expected to range from the upper 50s over the
southwest to just the low 40s in the northeast (i.e.,
Sheboygan), with mid to upper 60s expected away from the lake on
Thursday.

A strong storm system is then expected to impact much of the
central US Friday into the weekend, with a deep trough digging
across the Desert Southwest Thursday before pivoting into the
Central Plains on Friday. At the surface, low pressure is
expected to develop in eastern Colorado Friday morning, and then
rapidly lift northeastward into southern Minnesota by late
Friday night. Warm, moist air will advect northward ahead of the
low, with highs on Friday currently forecast to reach the 70s in
many locations. Rain/thunderstorm chances will increase later
Friday afternoon and especially Friday night, as an occluding
front surges into the area. Thunderstorm coverage and any
associated severe weather potential will be highly dependent on
the exact timing of the frontal passage and degree of
instability in place.

Once the front passes through, cool and windy weather is favored
for much of next weekend.

.MARINE...
Issued 253 PM CDT Sun Mar 9 2025

Gusty southwest winds this afternoon will ease and shift to the
west tonight into Monday morning. Low pressure will track
across the Upper Midwest and into Lake Superior region Monday.
Southwest winds will again ramp up through Monday afternoon with
gusts to around 30 knots. Then a cold front will push across
Lake Michigan overnight into Tuesday morning and turn winds
northwesterly. Northerly winds will linger into Tuesday, but
will weaken through the day as high pressure moves across the
western Great Lakes region.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until early this evening for
gusty winds. Another Advisory will likely be needed for at least
a portion of the nearshore waters Monday and Monday evening.

Southeast winds are expected for Wednesday and Thursday, with
brisk southerly winds developing Friday as strong low pressure
moves into the upper Mississippi Valley.
