The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Southeastern Hyde County in eastern North Carolina...
  Southeastern Dare County in eastern North Carolina...

* Until 700 PM EST.

* At 614 PM EST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
  extending from 7 miles west of Hatteras Ferry Terminal to 13 miles
  south of Frisco to 20 miles southeast of Ocracoke Lighthouse,
  moving northeast at 80 mph.

  HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Weather observations. These thunderstorms have a history
           of producing wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph.

  IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to
           mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

* Locations impacted include...
  Buxton, Salvo, Hatteras Ferry Terminal, Frisco, Avon, Waves, Avon
  Pier, Rodanthe, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and Hatteras Island
  Fishing Pier.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Please send your reports of hail and/or wind damage, including trees
or large limbs downed, by calling the National Weather Service office
in Newport at 1-800-889-6889.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EST for eastern North
Carolina.
