The first half of October was warm with temperatures averaging several degrees above normal. The warmest day of the month was on the 1st which had a high of 94 degrees. Temperatures remained in the 80s to low 90s through the 8th, then a couple of cold fronts moved through from the 9th through the 12th. The first front on the 9th was dry with just minor cooling and no precipitation. The second front on the 11th and 12th brought the first measurable rain of the month with 0.02 of an inch, but not the necessary wetting rain to quell the wildfires still burning in the Cascades Foothills to the north. A more substantial front moved through from the 15th to the 17th. Around one quarter of an inch of rain fell along with the first real cool autumn weather and temperatures below normal. The high on the 17th was 61 degrees. Typical ups and downs occurred during the remainder of the month as the seasonal shift of the jet southward continued to bring fairly regular fronts. A couple of clear, cold nights with the first freezes of the season occurred on the 24th and 25th. Fire season was declared over on the 27th as wetting rain visited most areas. The last few days of the month cooled off with highs only in the 50s from the 28th to the 31st. The average temperature for the month was 58.2 degrees, which is 2.1 degrees above normal. The average maximum temperature was 72.8 degrees, which is 2.7 degrees above normal. The average minimum temperature was 43.5 degrees, which is 1.4 degrees above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 94 degrees which occurred on the 1st. The lowest temperature for the month was 32 degrees which occurred on the 24 and 25th. There were 19 clear days, 9 partly cloudy days, and 3 cloudy days. Total precipitation for the month was 0.93 inches which is 0.29 inches below normal. Total precipitation for the water year (beginning October 1st) is 0.93 inches which is 0.29 inches below normal. Calendar year precipitation is 13.10 inches which is 0.81 inches above normal. The greatest 24 hour precipitation was 0.24 on the 27th. The average wind speed for the month was 2.9 mph. The fastest recorded two-minute wind speed was 20 mph from the northwest on the 4th, from the northeast on the 12th and from the west on the 27th.
