THE FIRST HALF OF OCTOBER WAS WARM WITH TEMPERATURES AVERAGING
SEVERAL DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST DAY OF THE MONTH WAS ON
THE 1ST WHICH HAD A HIGH OF 94 DEGREES. TEMPERATURES REMAINED IN THE
80S TO LOW 90S THROUGH THE 8TH, THEN A COUPLE OF COLD FRONTS MOVED
THROUGH FROM THE 9TH THROUGH THE 12TH. THE FIRST FRONT ON THE 9TH
WAS DRY WITH JUST MINOR COOLING AND NO PRECIPITATION. THE SECOND
FRONT ON THE 11TH AND 12TH BROUGHT THE FIRST MEASURABLE RAIN OF THE
MONTH WITH 0.02 OF AN INCH, BUT NOT THE NECESSARY WETTING RAIN TO
QUELL THE WILDFIRES STILL BURNING IN THE CASCADES FOOTHILLS TO THE
NORTH. A MORE SUBSTANTIAL FRONT MOVED THROUGH FROM THE 15TH TO THE
17TH. AROUND ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN FELL ALONG WITH THE
FIRST REAL COOL AUTUMN WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL. THE
HIGH ON THE 17TH WAS 61 DEGREES. TYPICAL UPS AND DOWNS OCCURRED
DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH AS THE SEASONAL SHIFT OF THE JET
SOUTHWARD CONTINUED TO BRING FAIRLY REGULAR FRONTS. A COUPLE OF
CLEAR, COLD NIGHTS WITH THE FIRST FREEZES OF THE SEASON OCCURRED ON
THE 24TH AND 25TH. FIRE SEASON WAS DECLARED OVER ON THE 27TH AS
WETTING RAIN VISITED MOST AREAS. THE LAST FEW DAYS OF THE MONTH
COOLED OFF WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE 50S FROM THE 28TH TO THE 31ST.
