797 FNUS54 KMAF 271913 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 213 PM CDT Thu Mar 27 2025 .DISCUSSION... Low fire weather conditions today as a result of clouds, wetting rain chances, and cooler than average temperatures all keeping min RH above critical 15% are forecast today. Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions return Friday as winds again shift to southwesterly, min RH falls below critical following poor overnight recovery, and ERCs remain above the 75th percentile areawide. RFTIs rise into 4 to 6 range over Southeast New Mexico into higher elevations of West Texas as well as most of the northern Permian Basin. RFTIs remain at this range this weekend, temporarily decrease Monday with cooler temperatures, then increase back into the 4 to 6 range. Light 20-ft winds below 20 miles per hour for most of the area next week will continue to limit magnitude of fire weather risk, but elevated to near critical fire weather conditions are still expected for the area Friday into this weekend, and again Tuesday into the end of next week. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
