.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 130 AM CDT Tue Aug 5 2025

A few clouds were noted streaming across the region via infrared
satellite imagery early this Tuesday morning. Current temperatures
were holding in the mid 60s to upper 70s. By day break, most
places should fall into the 60s.

Not many wholesale changes are anticipated through the work week.
Aloft, an expansive ridge situated over portions of the Four
Corners region should meander Ewrd into the Srn Plains by mid
week. Locally, some meridional component of NW flow will be in
place through Friday. By Sunday/Monday, an upper level trough will
move across the Nrn CONUS with the base of the trough pivoting
across the Cntrl Plains and Mid/Upper MS Valley regions. This
could introduce enough large scale lift, far enough S, for
scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop late in the period
across Nrn AR.

At the surface, winds should generally be E/NErly through Tuesday as
high pressure remains to the E and NE of AR. A new surface low is
progged to develop over the plains by Wednesday. This area of low
pressure will switch winds to the S/SE across the region. No
significant upper level impulses are expected to move through the
flow over the next five days thus organized rain chances appear
minimal until Sunday/Monday; even then only low end PoPs are
expected at the moment. With limited PoP chances and ample
sunshine expected, soil moisture will decrease through
evapotranspiration over the course of a week.

Temperatures will slowly moderate through the week. Today, high
temperatures should top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s and by the
weekend highs should top out in the lower to upper 90s. Lows by the
weekend should be in the 70s.

For August 5th, here are some daily averages at the following
locations, Harrison 68/90, Little Rock 71/92, Pine Bluff 72/92,
and Monticello 73/93. Basically today and Wednesday will be near
climatological averages. Afterwards, temperatures will moderate
above average for this time of year. The good news is heat
headlines appear unlikely through Saturday, however Sunday and
Monday heat indices may approach 105 degrees in some locations
within the Little Rock CWA.
