...NEW FALL AND SPRING FREEZE CLIMATOLOGY DATES NOW IN EFFECT...

Beginning on October 1, 2024, new median dates have been
established for the first fall freeze, and last spring freeze in
the NWS Baltimore/Washington County Warning Area. These new dates
are based on 1991-2020 climatology data. There were a few changes
to the median dates for areas west of the Blue Ridge.

As a reminder, the NWS Baltimore/Washington office will stop issuing
Freeze/Frost products after the first freeze of the year, then
resume in the spring once the growing season has resumed.


FALL: Below is a list of the median date of the first fall freeze:

October 11: Mountains
- In Maryland: Garrett, Allegany
- In West Virginia: Mineral, Grant, Pendleton
- In Virginia: Highland, Central & Northern Blue Ridge Mountains

October 21: Shenandoah Valley & Highlands
- In Maryland: Washington
- In West Virginia: Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, Hardy
- In Virginia: Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke,
  Warren, Page

November 1: East of Blue Ridge
- In Maryland: Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, Harford, Cecil,
  Montgomery, Howard, Prince George`s, Anne Arundel, Calvert,
  Charles, St. Mary`s
- In Virginia: Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William,
  Fauquier, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Culpeper, Orange,
  Rappahannock, Madison, Greene, Albemarle, Nelson
- Washington DC


SPRING: Below is a list of the median date of the last spring freeze:

April 11: East of Mountains
