Flood Warning
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC

...The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington DC has
issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in West Virginia...

  South Branch Potomac River near Springfield affecting Hampshire
  and Hardy Counties.

For the South Branch Potomac River...including Moorefield, SF,
Springfield...Minor flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.

...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...South Branch Potomac River near Springfield.

* WHEN...Until this evening.

* IMPACTS...At 15.0 feet, Milleson Mill Road (County Route 28/5) and
  Clarence Taylor Road (Route 3/7) begin to flood. Water covers a
  significant portion of meadowlands near the river. The boat launch
  ramp on the upstream right abutment of the bridge also floods.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 6:30 AM EST Friday the stage was 13.3 feet, or 1.7 feet
    below flood stage.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
    late this morning to a crest of 15.8 feet this afternoon. It
    will then fall below flood stage late this afternoon.
  - Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
  - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
    15.9 feet on 04/28/1952.
